Overview of The Studio
Welcome, Creative Friend,
In The Studio, we paint, letter, and make marks together live on Zoom. A few words on what this is to set expectations. It is different from the Creative Meditative Flow Series that I have hosted the past four years.
The Studio is not a place to learn specific techniques like watercolor, lettering, or drawing. If you're looking for step-by-step tutorials or a pattern to follow, Basics of CMF and CMF Foundations are the DIY courses for you to build those skills.
- Basics of CMF, https://superdoodlegirl.teachable.com/p/cmf_basics
- CMF Foundations, https://superdoodlegirl.teachable.com/p/cmf_foundations
This course is for people who would like to practice them in community and chat about creative topics. Think of it less like a class and more like a room full of artists working side by side.
For each session, we'll read a few chapters of Austin Kleon's Don't Call It Art. His words will become part of the practice. Lines you pull from the book will end up as quotes in your zine that week, so bring the book and bring your pens.
Here's how the sessions break down:
- Sessions 1 through 3: live flow plus book study. We paint and letter together, then talk through that week's chapters from Don't Call It Art. Each session, you'll begin a zine project.
- Session 4: We will work on the folio project during our live flow session and share our projects at the end.
Each module has a spot to share your work. Post pictures of your zine as you go, even process shots before the words go in, and comment on what other students are making. That's where the community part happens.
The supplies are up to you. If you are using watercolor, please work on mixed media paper that is about 9"x12".
Last thing. Leave the comparison and the self-criticism at the door. Just show up and make your work.
Get a copy of the book and start reading or listening. We will kick off with a discussion of Chapters 1-4 in our first session on September 13 at 1:00 PM CENTRAL.
Hugs + Doodles,
Roxanne 💜
